 Open Auditions for All Voice PartS on Jan. 29th
The award-winning San Diego Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will host open auditions on Wednesday, January 29th from 6:45 PM - 9:45 PM.  The chorus is currently ranked 7th worldwide, and performs 4-part barbershop harmony and contemporary a cappella music. 
San Diego Chorus Returns from Kansas City Ranked 7th Internationally
The San Diego Chorus returned from the 76th Annual Sweet Adelines Convention & Competition ranked 7th Internationally.
Approximately 76 of San Diego's 80 members took the stage in the Semi-Finals, competing against 33 other a cappella choral organizations worldwide. Semi-Finals contest packages are timed and typically feature two songs - an uptune and a ballad.

The San Diego Chorus presents "One in Harmony,” on Saturday, September 28th at 7 PM. The show features performances from OC Sound The show features performances from OC Sound and the San Diego Chorus in addition to featured quartets. San Diego Chorus Welcomes Coach Anne Downton
The San Diego Chorus is delighted to welcome coach Anne Downton to their Winter 2024 Recharge event. Anne serves as Director of Westcoast Harmony Chorus in Vancouver, Canada, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International.  With her unique blend of enthusiasm, expertise and attention to detail, Anne's guidance is both actionable and effective for singers. Anne's barbershop career began in 2000, when she found her way to Westcoast Harmony Chorus.  She was instantly hooked and hasn't looked back since.  
San Diego Chorus Among Seven in 2023 KPBS Musical Holiday Special
Produced in partnership with the Choral Consortium of San Diego, The Holiday Special will premiere at 8 PM PST on Saturday, November 25th on KPBS. The special will re-aire throughout the holiday season and will be available on-demand through the KPBS App. The offering was inspired by an ongoing commitment by KPBS to support and showcase local performing arts organizations.

PREMIERE: Sing With Me in Celebration of World Singing Day
​The San Diego Chorus proudly premieres the video single "Sing With Me." This song was performed in the finale of our annual show LEGACY: Lifting As We Rise on May 7, 2023. The event was a collaboration with the San Diego Women's Chorus. Named the 2022 Song of the Year by World Singing Day. Sung as a round in three parts, the memorable number is set to the tune of Dona Nobis Pacem (Grant Us Peace).
San Diego Chorus Advances to International Competition in 2024
AUGUST 20, 2023 - The San Diego Chorus recently competed in the Region 21 Golden West Contest and Convention, which was hosted in Albuquerque, New Mexico in March of 2023. The Chorus, which was established in 1951, won second place in the Region with a score of 674, ranking them fifth internationally based on worldwide results released from parent organization Sweet Adelines International. The score earned the chorus a coveted Wild Card invitation to compete internationally in October 2024 in Kansas City, Missouri.

PREMIERE: We Rise Again from the San Diego Chorus and the San Diego Women's Chorus with Special Guests San Diego Children's Choir
The San Diego Chorus proudly premieres the video single, "We Rise Again." This song was the closing number of the annual show LEGACY: Lifting As We Rise show on May 7, 2023. The event was a joint production with the San Diego Women's Chorus and features special guest musicians from the San Diego Children's Choir. Both organizations are under the direction of Kathleen Hansen. The song soars with the message that the children of today are our hope for the future, and was an immediate favorite of singers and audience members alike.

The San Diego Chorus welcomes interested women and non-binary singers to visit and participate in our open weekly rehearsals anytime, year-round. Several times a year, we host a Singer Open House, which is a special evening designed to help prospective members experience the joy of singing 4-part a cappella harmony and learn more about our vocal assessment and audition pathway.

As children, we sought the comforting feeling of “home”: curling up in a favorite blankie, cuddling with a pet, or giggling with a best friend. Growing up, many people found that place of safety making music in bands, orchestras and choirs. One of the reasons I became a conductor was to create an environment to provide others with that feeling, that space, that experience.

​Once the realities of adulthood set in, there are few and precious spaces where we can join together with vulnerability to explore and express the feelings that we may otherwise hold in or lose touch with. Creating art together is a salve for our collective psyche that gives us rest in a fast-paced world.

Patty Damron Shares Her Love of Singing With the Local Community and the World

Patty Damron is passionate about sharing her love of song with the world. She is a second generation member of the San Diego Chorus who began singing with the group at the tender age of six. "I started performing with my mom, who was a 35-year member. Back then, family members were part of the cast when the San Diego Chorus put on shows. When I was 16, I became a member myself. I find pure joy in sharing with others through songs and their messages," explained Patty.

​The San Diego Chorus is a world renowned women's singing group with accolades that include winning regional, national and international competitions. Over the course of Patty's 39 years as a member of the San Diego Chorus, she has held many positions, including her current roles as front row member, assistant bass section leader and audio voice listener.

Kathleen Hansen sees community as the cure to the illness of hate and violence, especially the community found in music groups. Over her 20-year history as a choral conductor and music teacher, she has witnessed the power of music in transforming lives. She has seen how it draws people together despite their differences and helps them develop compassion for others.

"Music is such a gentle entry into the world of what other people are experiencing,” Hansen says. "It creates room for empathy toward another person’s story rather than fear, bias or misunderstanding."
