San Diego Chorus
Musical director search

A rare opportunity to lead, teach, and inspire an established and award-winning a cappella chorus and chapter of Sweet Adelines International.

Could YOU be the next Musical Director of the San Diego Chorus?

The San Diego Chorus is stepping into a new chapter—one defined by elevated musicianship, bold a cappella artistry, and a renewed drive for competitive excellence. As a high-level chorus, we're seeking a relational Musical Director with a deep command of vocal pedagogy, rehearsal craft, and artistic imagination. Someone who can champion our competitive goals while nurturing the growth and confidence of every singer. Someone who thrives in member‑led environments, leads with collaboration and clarity, and embodies inclusivity in both philosophy and practice. Most importantly, we’re looking for a leader whose values resonate with our own and who feels inspired by the mission and spirit of this chorus and Sweet Adelines International.

As an organization, our core values, brand, marketing, and communications create a strong and cohesive foundation that sets the stage for meaningful progress. Our members bring a genuine appetite for musical excellence and a shared commitment to continuous growth. The San Diego Chorus is supported by an established Chorus Management Team and Directors’ Musical Team with a strong section leader structure, providing a framework where education and artistry can thrive. Coaching, ongoing improvement, and creative exploration are woven into our culture, complemented by active access to top-tier regional and international educators. We also invest in resources for ongoing director development, ensuring that our Musical Director is supported, challenged, and equipped to lead at the highest level.

If this strikes a chord with you, we invite you to explore this opportunity.

A search designed with intention, insight, and integrity.

From first impression to final vote, the San Diego Chorus follows a process that honors both the craft of directing and the voice of our membership.
Our recruiting and selection process blends rigor with artistic curiosity. Candidates submit materials showcasing their musical vision and educational approach, which are carefully reviewed by the Search Committee. Selected applicants move into interviews and guided evaluations, culminating in rehearsal auditions where they work directly with our singers. Member feedback plays an essential role, and the chorus confirms the appointment through a formal vote. Each step is structured to highlight a candidate’s musicianship, pedagogy, leadership style, and alignment with our values.
Questions? We're Here to Help.

Don't forget about our location.

It's just a little place called San Diego. No big deal.
Let’s be honest: directing a world-class chorus is already a pretty great gig.
But directing a world-class chorus in San Diego? That’s next-level living.

Here, your rehearsal commute might include a sunset, a taco shop, and a mild identity crisis about whether you accidentally moved to vacationland. Creativity thrives year-round, thanks to an arts scene that’s as diverse and alive as our coastline — from Balboa Park’s rehearsal spaces to a vibrant choral and performing arts community packed with entertainment, festivals, and educational opportunities.

It’s a place where high-level musicians flock, palm trees photobomb your rehearsal selfies, and inspiration has a habit of showing up between the SoCal ocean air and the city lights. If you’re looking for a place where artistry and lifestyle are equally extraordinary, you’ve just found it.
